Gathering for the state murder of Kostas Manioudakis, Wednesday 24/4 at 19:00 in Kamara

KOSTAS MANIOUDAKIS MURDERED
FROM THE REPUBLIC’S COMMISSIONED BATTALIONS

On September 1, 2023, 58-year-old Kostas Manioudakis was murdered by uniformed members of the TAE Soudas during a police check on the provincial road Fre-Vrisson. More specifically, police forces stop the 58-year-old, take him out of his car in a field, beat him brutally and, after handcuffing him, drag him to their parked patrol cars. Despite the first aid of passers-by, Kostas Manioudakis, after the brutal police attack he received, collapses.

The murder of Kostas Manioudakis is followed by a cover-up operation by the police and its leaks to the local press, where there is talk of a formal traffic control at BOAK during which the 58-year-old dies of pathological causes, but also by the medical examiner who took over the case, who concealed the existence of injuries. But the picture seen by both his relatives and the passers-by who saw him when he collapsed, as well as the doctors of the Vamos Health Center, to which he was transferred, was completely different from the one the police tried to present. Both the injuries and marks on his body, which came from the brutal attack of the uniformed killers, as well as the image of the place where the event took place leave no room for misinterpretation and distortion of what took place.

Coming to today, these days, April 23 and 24, the uniformed killers of K. Manioudakis are called to testify in the criminal court as suspects of manslaughter with possible intent in a calm state of mind together. In the second year, the case file will be passed by the competent Prosecutor to judge whether the murderers will be prosecuted and finally by an investigator. All the previous time there have been obscene attempts to cover up the crime, with the medical examiner initially claiming that his death came from pathological causes in the absence of injuries. There was no autopsy at the crime scene, the camera footage disappeared a few days before it was sent to the prosecutor’s office, and the witnesses are intimidated by the local authorities so they never testify. Four months later and after the struggles of the family, solidarity and the local community, the medical examiner finally submits the detailed report, which clearly shows the injuries that led K. Manioudakis to death. The narrative of the state agencies remains the same, although it is clearly collapsing. At the beginning of April, his family finally gets their hands on the case file, which shows the methodical cover-up of the crime by the authorities and the media, as well as the fact that the killers themselves participated in the investigation of the murder.

The murder of Kostas Manioudakis as well as the cover-up operation comes to be added to a series of state murders, such as that of N. Sampanis in Perama, K. Fragoulis in Thessaloniki, H. Michalopoulos in Thebes, refugees and immigrants on land and water borders of Europe – a fortress with the most typical example being the state killing of hundreds off Pylos by the coast guard.

We are in a period where the state-capitalist system is increasingly intensifying its attack on the great social majority by aggravating the conditions of exploitation, impoverishment and extreme devaluing of human life, while at the same time arming, marshalling a police army, building a rhetoric of order and security and hits all those who struggle, targeting especially the anarchist movement and the foci of collective and self-organized resistance, intensifying its permanent counter-insurgency strategy, to root out the uprisings that are gestating. The dozens of dead in Tempi, the dead from the dissolution of the National Social Security System, the dead in the warehouses of wage slavery, the looting of nature and the government’s refusal to manage its consequences with burnt forests, flooded villages, the charred bodies of people and animals are the reality shaped for us by the rulers. The tragic events that shock us are not isolated incidents but are part of the only strategy methodically applied by modern totalitarianism, that of violence, exclusion and death.

Against the imposition of familiarity with death the only way is the dissolution of state power. Against the constant state crimes against the plebeians and nature, the thousands of dead refugees and immigrants and their mass incarceration in concentration camps, the cold-blooded murders of Roma by the police riot squads of the republic and the constant repressive attacks against the anarchist struggle, of occupations and social and class resistances to the re-emergence of fascist, neo-Nazi murderous gangs from Evros where bounty hunters stalk and kidnap migrants to racist crimes in the cities, such as the murder of the migrant Shiraz Saftar in Perissos and the fascist attacks in our neighbourhoods, such as the attack on the 2 queer people in Aristotelous and the vandalism of the People’s Library in Neapolis and the mainstream propaganda, which promotes racism, nationalism and intolerance and breeds cannibalistic crimes, such as the murder of Antonis in the port of Piraeus, we put forward the social solidarity and mutual aid among the oppressed.
