The US Congress finally approved a massive $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan last Tuesday night.
Taiwan’s president-elect Lai Ching-te, who is due to take office on May 20, said the aid would “strengthen deterrence against authoritarianism” and “save peace”.
Beijing, which has not ruled out resorting to violence to regain control of Taiwan, warned today that it would take “decisive and effective measures to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity”.
US military aid cannot “change the disastrous fate of Taiwan’s independence,” Wang stressed.
“The US should (…) stop arming Taiwan, stop creating new tensions in the Taiwan Strait, and stop endangering peace and stability on both sides of the Strait,” concluded the Chinese spokesperson. ministry.
