The 26-year-old Roma was sentenced to life in prison, and the 32-year-old Greek woman was released

Early on Tuesday and after a long conference, from Monday afternoon, the Mixed Jury Court of Kalamata issued the decision for the brutal murder of the 31-year-old Albanian land worker in November 2022 on Kartela beach in Kyparissia.

With its decision, the court attributed the main role in the murder and robbery of the land worker to his 32-year-old compatriot, imposing on him a life sentence for the main charges, while the 26-year-old Roma was charged with complicity in the robbery and complicity in the homicide, imposing on him life and 12 years imprisonment respectively. Finally, the development for the 32-year-old Greek woman, who was their co-accused, with the same charges, was particularly positive. She was acquitted of the murder and was charged with simple complicity in the robbery. She was granted leniency and her appeal was stayed, with her lawyer Charalambos Avramidis expressing his satisfaction with the decision.

Lifelong
The court hearing concluded late Monday afternoon, and soon after the conference of the three regular judges and four jurors began, which ended just before midnight. In the early hours of the morning, the process of imposing the penalties was completed.

According to the court’s decision, the 32-year-old Albanian was unanimously found guilty of manslaughter in a calm state of mind and robbery with particular cruelty, while he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was also sentenced to 22 months in prison for the misdemeanors of illegal carrying and use of a weapon, for the beam he used in the murder.

The jury found the 26-year-old Roma by a majority (3 jurors abstained) guilty of robbery with complicity and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Also, by a majority (3 jurors abstained) he was found guilty of direct complicity in the homicide and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while he was found not guilty of the charges of illegal carrying of weapons and use of weapons.

The 32-year-old Greek woman was unanimously found not guilty of manslaughter in a calm state of mind, not guilty of illegal carrying and use of a weapon and found guilty of simple complicity in the robbery. She was sentenced to 7 years in prison, the mitigation of her previous legal life was recognized and the appeal was given a suspensive character, so until the trial of the case in the second instance she will remain free.

In fact, regarding this positive outcome for the woman, her lawyer Charalambos Avramidis stated: “It was a long process, which was conducted in four meetings of the Mixed Jury Court of Kalamata. An impeccable process by the court, which issued a fair judgment as far as the second defendant is concerned. It was proved in this court, which she had been shouting from the first moment, that she never committed murder and was innocent, as she was judged to be. She had a very small part in taking money from the victim, which in any case was never found in her possession. For this reason, she was released by the court until the hearing of the appeal court”.

It is recalled that earlier in the morning the public prosecutor had proposed the guilt of all three, as charged, which, if accepted, would have resulted in a life sentence for each of the defendants.

That night they were all together in a bar in Kyparissia, with the victim having 12,000 euros on him, but when he was found dead, the money had gone “wings”.
