“Zero hour” Spartans: Today their participation or not in the European elections is being judged

Today, the participation or non-participation of the Spartans in the European elections is being judged, possibly their stay or dismissal from the Parliament. The A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court is meeting in the morning to announce the parties and coalitions of parties that will participate in the June 9 elections, with the eye on Vassilis Stiga’s party.

After the memoranda submitted to the Supreme Court by the ND, PASOK and the New Left, asking to be excluded from the European elections, the Spartans are in an extremely difficult position, with legal circles discounting the ban on their participation in the electoral process, with based on the law on “actual leadership” of parties.

ND.: “Ilias Kasidiaris is a real leader”

“It is a memorandum in defense of the Republic, as from 1974 until today we stand resolutely against anyone who attempts to undermine the democratic institutions. The party – a shell of a criminal organization, which disintegrated during the government of the ND, has the real leader Ilias Kasidiaris, who has been sentenced to prison for joining and directing the criminal organization Golden Dawn”, states to newsit.gr the General Director of N.D. The answer of the President of the Spartans V. Stiga

The President of the Spartans Vasilis Stigas yesterday (23/04/2024), in communication with newsit.gr, he avoided opening his papers on how he will react to a possible exclusion of the party from the European elections, however he attacked the opposition parties, accusing them that with their actions and their positions tried to influence the judgment of the Justice.

“After the failed memoranda of the ND, PASOK and the New Left, I do not want to make any statement that affects the judgment of the Justice. We have confidence in the Greek Justice and we believe that it will do the self-evident things imposed by the Constitution and our Democracy” said Mr. Stigas, announcing that he will be appointed today to the Parliament, following the decision of the A1 section of the Supreme Court.

It is recalled that corresponding reminders were filed last June by N.D. and PASOK against Ilias Kasidiaris’ “Hellenes” party, with the supreme judges blocking its entry into the national elections.

The time also counts in reverse for the decision of the Electoral Court

The cordon around the Spartans is however… narrow. According to information, it is possible that even today, when it has a scheduled meeting, the Supreme Special Court (Electoral Court) will also take a decision on the future of the Spartans.

It is recalled that a decision is pending, after appeals have been filed regarding the legality of the Spartan party’s participation in Parliament.

V. Stigas had contested the appeals and denied that he is a “straw man” of Ilias Kasidiaris and that with his own assistance the Spartans entered the Parliament, violating the electoral legislation and damaging the prestige of the elections. But the last reason belongs to the Electoral Court, which will decide whether the MPs of the party in question will be removed from the parliamentary office.

Elections or distribution of Spartan seats? The scripts

In this case, the scenarios that may exist based on the Constitution and the applicable legislation are two:

A). To repeat the elections in the districts where the Spartans’ deputies were elected. It is a scenario that does not gather much probability, but cannot be ruled out. If it is decided that polling stations should be set up, the dilemma that arises is whether the elections in the specific regions will be held together with the European elections or at another time.

B). The percentage of 4.68% received by the Spartans in the national elections translates into 12 seats to be shared proportionally among the other parties.

In the “klioos” and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court

In parallel with the Electoral Court, however, the Spartans are in the sights of the Justice and based on the order of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adelinis, to read the accusation of cheating the electorate for the 11 elected members of parliament with the ballot of the Spartans and the imprisoned Ilias Kasidiaris .

The order of Mrs. Adeilini does not include the President of the party, Vasilios Stiga, who had made public complaints about illegal and underground practices in his party that refer to the Greek Mafia and Don Korleone and based on which the prosecutor’s investigation was launched personally the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office.

For Ilias Kasidiaristhe Supreme Court Prosecutor is asking the prosecutors to prosecute him as a moral perpetrator of the fraud of the electorate, as the prosecutor’s investigation showed that there was a hidden leadership in the party and that he was the real leader of the Spartans.

Experienced lawyers estimate that the prosecutor’s order from Ms. Adelini “will weigh on the decision of the Electoral Court”.
