Although rollovers or falls from agricultural tractors are among the most common causes of workplace “accidents”, they are recorded as traffic accidents, thereby obscuring the reality of the blood toll paid by land workers and subsistence farmers.
The agricultural sector (farmers and breeders together) not only in Greece, but worldwide presents one of the highest percentages of occupational accidents and occupational diseases. According to Eurostat data, the agricultural sector ranks 4th among 22 sectors, in terms of the number of accidents and fatal accidents, while 86.5% of farmers, breeders and fishermen have a greater risk exposure for their physical health.
We need no more evidence of the lack of safety, the worsening of working conditions and the devaluing of human life.
For the KKE, prevention, protection of life, health and safety of all workers is a task of primary importance.
