Concern among consumers about this year’s lamb prices – What the livestock breeder and secretary of the Livestock Association of the Attica Region, “Agios Georgios”, Magda Kontogianni tells Newsbomb.gr

This year will be “salty” as well Easter the velias, the price of which in butchers is estimated to range at 13-15 euros per kilo, increased by 1 euro compared to last year.

According to what Newsbomb.gr reports, the breeder and secretary of the Livestock Association of the Attica Region, “Agios Georgios”, Magda Kontogiannis: “The market is open. They have already been imported from other countries legally. The issue is that they do not acquire locality after a few days of staying in our country. So far the neighborhood butchers have pretty good prices. I believe there will be self-sufficiency for consumers.”

Cattle breeder and secretary of the Livestock Association of the Attica Region, “Agios Georgios”, Magda Kontogianni speaks to Newsbomb.gr.

And he adds: “in neighborhood butchers I have seen that these days the selling price for lamb is 13 euros per kilo and for goat at 13.50 euros per kilo. At Easter, although I can’t make estimates, I believe that the prices will range from 13 to at most 15 euros per kilo for the last pieces that will now be barely done.”

“If someone buys the whole thing, they can find it for 12 euros”

According to what he reported to Newsbomb.gr, Mr. Theodoros Roussos, president of the Butchers Retailers Union of Athens-Attica “The Brigadier Generals”: “Currently we sell at around 13 to 13.50 euros per kilo. Estimates for Easter indicate that it may bite 1 euro and reach 14.50 euros. At the moment there are lambs.”

Mr. Theodoros Roussos is the president of the Athens-Attica Butchers Retailers Association “The Taxiarches” spoke to Newsbomb.gr.

He added: “The prices are at approximately the same levels as last year. We’re not talking about wholes. If someone buys the whole thing, it can be found for 12 euros. As far as the consumer is concerned, he should know that there are constant checks. However, the consumers’ main weapon is the trust they have in their butcher.”

It should be noted that according to representatives of the producers, it is estimated that this year the exports made in the previous period to Italy, Spain and Portugal due to the Catholic Easter were by 20% increased compared to last year.
