“Our children are innocent, they haven’t done anything” say the mothers of those arrested for the Lyggeridis murder

The 67 arrested from yesterday’s operation of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues for the murder of the Policeman, Giorgos Lyggeridis, outside the closed gym Melina Merkouris, in Rentis, last December are being brought before the Prosecutor and the Investigator. Among them is the 16-year-old brother of the 18-year-old, who had been remanded in custody as he is said to be the one who launched the fatal flare.

The 18-year-old in his statement before the Piraeus Investigator had stated that his younger brother had no involvement in the incidents.

However, according to information, the authorities have evidence that implicates the 16-year-old both in the murderous attack and in the “tough” core of the 20 hooligans who had a leading role in the organization.

Parents of some of the arrested are also outside the Evelpidon Courts, who claim that their children have nothing to do with what they are accused of and were simply at the stadium on the evening of December 7th.

“My son was just on the field. He had gone to watch the match that day, the volleyball, and found himself accused without having done anything at all. He suddenly found himself in GADA without the child having done anything, from where he did not expect it. I feel wronged because the child has done absolutely nothing and has been accused here. Go to international matches, to big games, it has nothing to do with organized ones. We talked about it and he told me that he has nothing to do with all this. Just that night at the end he saw that the Police had surrounded them on the field to arrest them. He usually went to the stadium alone, maybe with a friend, but usually alone. It wasn’t organized, my son was working, he didn’t have time for many things like that,” the mother of a 23-year-old man who was arrested yesterday and is facing serious charges, tells protothema.gr.

“They came to my house yesterday. They searched my house, the child was not at home. And then my son went and turned himself in. I don’t know any of the others who have arrested. He is innocent. That night he was at the stadium. There were so many people. And they had brought him along with the rest. Once again they took him to GADA, they came home and did not find him and he went alone again. They interrogated him and then let him go. He told me he is innocent. For that night, he had told me that they were caught in there, in the stadium,” says the mother of another arrested person who was brought to the Transportation Directorate on the night of the incidents.
