S. Famellos: “Although citizens and businesses see price increases on the shelves and at gas stations, Mr. Mitsotakis is limited to set tours”

--

Statement of the President of K.O. of SYRIZA-PS, Socrates Famellou for the submission of a request to conduct a pre-agenda debate in the Parliament on the accuracy.

SYRIZA-PS filed today a request for a pre-agenda debate in the Parliament, on the great wave of accuracy, which is plaguing the Greek society and economy. Although citizens and businesses see the prices on the shelves and at gas stations constantly increasing, Mr. Mitsotakis is limited to organized tours. But the numbers disprove him. In the last three years, our country has continuously recorded firsts in both electricity and fuel. In March we were again in first place in fuel accuracy.

But food inflation is also increasing at a rate of over 5%, while in Europe it is much lower. General and structural inflation are rising in Greece, while falling in the Eurozone. The results, therefore, prove that Mr. Mitsotakis and the Government are not doing everything they can and should do because the profits and dividends of the big companies are constantly increasing.

In the field of fuel we have high surplus profits which are not taxed. While there is a European regulation, the Government is not proceeding with the taxation of the surplus profits of the two refineries for 2023. While the corresponding provision that exists for the taxation of surplus profits in the supply of electricity has not been implemented by the Government for at least 16 months.

It is obvious that there are specific responsibilities, which Mr. Mitsotakis refuses to face.

We have submitted two questions to the Prime Minister (March 15 & April 4), which have not entered the Parliament’s agenda for six weeks.
At the same time, we see profits increasing in other sectors as well, such as banks.
Mr. Mitsotakis does not come to the Parliament because he has no answers to give but also because he has responsibilities which he does not want to assume.

But society and the economy are constantly affected. Lately, we have seen businesses in the country closing due to energy costs.

We have taken a comparative initiative, with complete proposals for the issues of accuracy. We have not heard any comment from the side of the Government, on the contrary the Government is responsible for the extreme wave of profiteering.
Therefore, we submit the application for a pre-daily debate in the Parliament so that Mr. Mitsotakis can now come and be appointed to the Parliament”.
