Death of an infant in Kos: What the autopsy showed

The infant, according to what his parents have reported, was found on Saturday afternoon by the mother unconscious. The 20-year-old called for help and EKAB was notified, which immediately rushed to the scene.

The rescuers found that the baby was not breathing and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The baby was rushed to the hospital in Kos, where doctors confirmed his death and found food debris that had blocked the airways.

The mother told the doctors that she had fed him potatoes and made him lie down. The tragic case took on new dimensions when doctors found abrasions and bruises on the bodies. They also requested further examination to determine whether she had been sexually abused.

The medical examiner who performed the autopsy found no traces of sexual abuse while noting that the abrasions on his body were from previous beatings.

The parents had argued from the beginning that the blows had come from various minor accidents and during play with his little brother. The medical examiner’s conclusion was that the infant’s death was caused by suffocation due to food.
