The prices of vegetables in the central vegetable market of Rentis “tumbled”.

--

The checks carried out recently in the market “show” a reduction in prices of basic products.

In the last five months, according to data from the Organization of Central Markets and Fisheries, to which the vegetable market of Rentis belongs, price reductions have been recorded in most basic fruits and vegetables – which are also affected by seasonality. From the price comparison on April 18 this year and December 11, 2023, 40 basic fruits and vegetables show decreases in 23 products, increases in ten, while prices remain stable in seven.

The biggest price drop is in broccoli, which is now selling 80 cents cheaper, at €1.2 a kilo from €2 last December, cauliflowers, which are selling 70 cents cheaper, at 80 cents from €1.50 kilo, and eggplants which are sold 60 cents cheaper, at 80 cents from 1.4 euros per kilo.

Where else are price reductions recorded?

A decrease in prices is also observed for tomatoes, as they are 30 cents per kilo cheaper, i.e. they are sold at 1 euro from 1.3 euro that were sold in December. Lemons are also 20 cents cheaper at 60 from 80 cents and spinach at 90 cents from 1.1 euros per kilo. Price reductions are also recorded in carrots, which sell at 60 from 70 cents, lettuce at 30 from 45 cents, beetroots at 70 from 80 cents, oranges at 55 from 60 cents, green onions at 1.3 from 1.4 euros per kilo and for garlic 30 from 38 cents.

However, the prices of most varieties of apples are stable at 1.1 euros per kilo and dry onions at 90 cents per kilo, while crystal pears are slightly higher at 1.5 euros from 1.4 euros per kilo, kiwis at 1 ,6 from 1.4 euros per kilo and for bananas 1.15 euros from 95 cents per kilo. This downward trend is registered after the latest interventions of the Ministry of Development in the supply chain and mainly with the intervention for the net price from the field to the shelf, which seems to be bearing fruit.

Under this permanent measure, suppliers sell their products at net prices, and a credit tariff of up to 3% is provided only for returns or product returns.
