With the participation of a large number of people, the event of honor and memory was held for the veterans of the local press who left, at the Papastrateio Megaro Agriniou.
The event entitled: “Honoring to the Memory of Veterans of the Local Press who have left” was held under the auspices and support of the Municipality of Agrinio.
The event was organized by the Weekly Newspapers MACHITIS and PALMOS AETOLOKARNANIAS with the co-organizer of the former Newspaper Agent Mr. Vlasis Albanis.
At the start of the proceedings, the Venerable Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania, Mr. Damaskinos, the Mayor of Agriniou, Georgios Papanastasiou, presidents and representatives of journalistic associations addressed a greeting. This was followed by the speeches about the eleven honored deceased by the lawyer Aikaterini Kitsakis, the philologist Konstantina Koutsonikas and the journalist Kalliopi Myrisiotis. Immediately after the pr. of the International Section of European Journalists Saya Tsoushidou referred to the contribution of the local press to the development of the Region, while veteran journalist Emilios Koutsonikas delivered a greeting.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Agriniou said, among other things: “The honored editors, together with the contemporaries, are not just a pillar of society, but a guarantor of democracy. “Publication is the soul of justice”.
Even in times when values were challenged and institutions deconstructed, the provincial press remained a genuine voice of popular demands. It proved that it has strong roots but also a living present. The local communities supported all the tireless information workers. We recognize this effort today and support today’s excellent initiative.”
The event closed with the awarding of honorable mentions to the families of the deceased journalist editors:

After the end of the event, there was a guided tour of the exhibition of newspaper headlines, in the Exhibition Space of the Papastrateion Megaro. Visitors have the opportunity to see headlines that made history in the local, Athenian and international press.
