Two people who knew “things and situations” about the dark world of hooligans and the murderous attack with the victim Giorgos Lyggeridis in Renti.

By using the protected witness status the police were able to obtain additional information that helped the investigation (but did not play a decisive role in the case).
It is noted that the two protected witnesses are among the defendants in the case. Today, those arrested are being taken to the Public Prosecutor, where they are expected to be prosecuted and then given a deadline to apologize to the Investigator.

In the meantime, with a “recipe” reminiscent of the case file filed against Golden Dawn executives, the EL.AS plan was drawn up. for the “dismemberment” of the criminal organization that is allegedly behind the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in Rentis and also behind about 13 other cases of sports violence.
As they explain in iEidiseis sources from Katehaki Avenue, from the first moment the reasoning of the political and physical leadership of the Police was to deal with the hooligans “holistically”, i.e. not to limit the investigation to the murderous attack with the victim of the 31-year-old MAT man in Rentis. And this because from the beginning there was evidence that showed the experienced officers that there is a connection between the physical and moral perpetrators and other actions dating back to 2019.
Police began to analyze the profile of a 40-year-old man, who was reported to be “in command” of a violent group of fans. The police found him about 24 hours ago in Ioannina. From monitoring him, they knew that he was not in Athens and had taken care to take their measures, as there was a fear that he might leave the country. When the police stopped him, they found more than 5,000 euros. It is believed that he had already learned that the cordon around him had begun to tighten some time ago and that he might be attempting to disappear with cash on him.
The valuable information they gathered from a video-document taken by a fan in the stands, as well as from high-resolution photographs, played an important role in starting to unravel the tangle in the case of the Lyggeridis murder. clarity, while the forensic laboratories “spoke” of ordnance that had been identified outside the stadium in Rentis and from the stadium’s toilets, where the perpetrators had set fire to clothes in order to hide their traces.

5,000 pages of the case file
There are more than 5,000 pages in the case file for the criminal organization accused of the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis in Rentis and 13 more incidents of sports violence.
According to information, the 165 defendants are allegedly accused – as the case may be – of “blind” attacks in Ioannina, New Philadelphia, Volos, Lamia, Malakasa, Ilion and Neo Faliro. The police believe that the murderous attack on the MAT squad of Giorgos Lyggeridis was “retaliation” for the incidents that took place at the Panthessaliko stadium in Volos between Olympiakos fans and the Police.
Key protagonists, according to police sources, in the case file filed for a criminal organization are a 40-year-old who is alleged to be the head of a certain organized group of fans, a 27-year-old who allegedly also had the role of “storekeeper”, a 31-year-old who is described as “the hard man of the stand “, a peer who had previously been mapped as a person with connections to Golden Dawn and a 36-year-old who had recently engaged the Police after a fight that had taken place outside the Karaiskaki stadium in Neo Faliro.
Information indicates that in the case file there are distinct roles, such as leaders, coordinators, team leaders and members of the executive arm.
