When a wealthy bachelor dies at the fall dance, a young lady takes on the inappropriate role of detective in an action-packed comedy. The dynamic Beatrice Steele isn’t exactly a “proper miss”: she’s terrible at needlework, has no musical skills, and her painting is so bad that it scares people. But he follows with great passion the crimes in the newspapers.

Otherwise, she lives a perfectly pleasant life with her mother who is always getting married, her father who is always playing pranks, and her two younger sisters – the beautiful Louisa and the colorless Mary. At the dance, Beatrice tries to be type and underline.

Suddenly, halfway through a minuet, the sought-after bachelor Edmund Croaksworth drops dead. The storm rages outside and the night turns into a frenzy of panic, fear and betrayal, as it is clear that everyone is trapped together with a killer. Beatrice must transcend decorum and decency to bring justice – before another murder is committed.
