Murder in Rentis: At the prosecutor the 67 arrested – provocative shouted slogans outside GADA

To the courts of Evelpidon, they were transferred on Tuesday morning, under particularly strict police measures, from the General Police Directorate of Attica, where the dozens of those arrested related to the case of the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, last December during the incidents of hooligans in Rentis, were being held.

As ERT reported, coming out of GADA, unrepentant and defiant, the arrested shouted slogans against the journalists.

A total of 67 people were arrested as they were involved in several incidents of fan violence and were expected to appear before the prosecutor to plead guilty to the serious charges they face.

Of the 67, 63 people are charged with their involvement in fan violence, three with drug possession and one person with a weapons offence. It is estimated that five people will be charged with moral complicity in the fatal wounding of 31-year-old police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis.

In an investigation that was carried out for four months under strict secrecy, the police officers dealing with violence in the sports arenas managed to “bind” the charge of the criminal organization by gathering important findings mainly from the scene of the murder of the MAT police officer.

Videos, photos and witness statements played a decisive role in the solution of the puzzle, while in the forensic laboratories various weapons of war that had been identified outside the “Melina Mercouri” stadium and had been transferred to the forensic laboratories, as well as from the toilets of the stadium there, “spoke” where they had set fire to clothes in order to disappear their traces.

“It is probably the largest file that has been filed for a case of fan violence” reported ERT. The police collected information on 158 names in a file that exceeds 5,500 pages!

Four buses with the arrested, under strict protection measures, arrived shortly before 09:00 outside the courts of Evelpidon. According to public television, at least two prosecutors are on hand to indict the accused and give them time to plead guilty.

The defendants are involved in more than ten incidents of fan violence both in Attica and in other cities with the criminal group’s activity starting in 2019.

All those arrested come from the door of the organized followers of the specific group and face the criminal organization charge with different sub-charges depending on the degree of their involvement. Among those arrested is the minor brother of the accused for launching the deadly flare, as well as the manager of a well-known trapper.

The evidence that has been found against those arrested is numerous and “burns” those directly involved with the violent episodes of that night, as all these months they have been identified through the findings from the Forensic Laboratories as well as from the analysis of the video materials.

Especially for the main core of the “group leaders” investigations have also been made for money. In fact, in the possession of one of the directly involved, who is unemployed, 5,000 euros were found and confiscated, which he could not justify, while one of them was arrested in Ioannina in his attempt to flee the country.
