An important road axis, the Central Greece highway E 65 in the section from Lamia to Kalambaka is now open to traffic, speeding up travel in the area. Only the section from Kalambaka to Egnatia remains, which will be delivered at the end of 2025.

The single section of 136 km will be handed over to traffic on Tuesday evening, after the inauguration will have preceded in the morning, in the presence of the Prime Minister Kyriakou Mitsotakis and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras.

Thus, with the delivery of the two new sections of the E65, a total of 136 km of modern, safe highway are put into traffic, from the Karpenisi interchange outside Lamia to the Uneven Kalambaka Junction, significantly reducing the travel time from the capital to the Meteora.

Important destinations such as Meteora, Plastira Lake, Karpenisi, Trikala they are now accessible, quickly, easily and safely, while a new development dynamic will be given to the core of the country.

The highway of Central Greece is a project being built by the company TERNA SA. It has a total length of 182.1 km and is one of the most important national projects, with a total budget of approximately 1.3 billion euros.

It has, according to the data announced, the necessary capacity of a modern two-lane highway in each direction plus an Emergency Lane, effectively connecting Eastern and Western Greece.

It is recalled, according to information from the Central Road, that the last 46 km of the highway, which will start from the uneven Kalambaka junction and reach Egnatia Odos, west of Greveni, are also under construction.

At 136 km., at the disposal of every driver are road safety services of the Central Road such as:

  • 24-hour Road Safety Patrol
  • 4-digit 24-hour Emergency number, 1075
  • Free Roadside Assistance in cases of immobilization
  • Telephone Customer Service at 801 700 7000

The points and costs of the front toll stations

On the E65, 3 frontal toll stations will operate immediately.

  • Lianokladiou at 17.1 km with a toll for cars at 1.85 euros
  • Sofadon at 66.2 km at a cost of 3.40 euros and
  • Trikala at 105.7 km at a cost of 2.95 euros
  • That is, the total for a driver who will enter at the beginning of the E65 and wants to reach Kalambaka and Meteora is 8.2 euros.

The fourth frontal toll station that will operate in the future with the completion of the E65 is in Oxyneia at 151.9 km.

The side stations of Anavras (2 euros), Proastiou (1.15 euros), Trikala (0.80 euros) and Kalambakas (0.90 euros) are also in operation.

When the E65 is completed the route from Lamia to Egnatia will take 1 hour and 45 minutes, down from the 3 hours and 15 minutes it took before the construction of the highway.
