Tolls: How much will Athens – Thessaloniki cost with examples

In fact, as Kathimerini reports in its publication, it was also agreed that the 2023 surcharge (12%), which was not collected, will be divided into three installments until 2026 and the concessionaires will absorb a part of it.

The companies have submitted a request for compensations for profits they did not collect from the increase that did not take place in 2023 and it is considered that the ministry will hardly avoid giving them.

According to Kathimerini, in the coming days the concessionaires will formally inform the exact size of the increase in tolls from the new year.

Annual increases are calculated based on the increase in the consumer price index each September. The index increased in 2023 by 1.65% compared to 2022.

Half of the increase from 2021 to 2022 – which was 12% – will be added to this increase, i.e. 6%. Therefore, the total increase effective from January 1 will be 7.63% (it remains to be seen whether the amount will be rounded).

Speaking with examples, if the increase is 7.63%, it means that the route of an I.X. from Athens to Thessaloniki will cost 33.75 euros (against 31.35 euros), the route Athens – Ioannina (via the bridge of Rio – Antirrio) will cost 41.15 euros (against 38.25 euros), the route Athens – Patras at 12.70 euros (against 11.80 euros) and the route Athens – Kalamata at 15 euros (against 13.95 euros today).

It should be noted that these examples are indicative, since the prices are rounded at the toll stations (usually downwards).

Regarding the remaining rate of up to 12%, the companies agreed to “absorb” a small part (the 2%) and the rest to be borne by the 2025 and 2026 tolls (2% will be added each year to the increase in the consumer price index ).

In relation to the revenue that the companies would have from the toll increase in 2023, which did not happen, everything shows that the taxpayers are the ones who will pay here again, this time… indirectly and not at stations. most likely the Ministry of Infrastructure will give the relevant compensations.

So far the applications are for compensation for the first half of 2023, while applications are coming for the second as well.

The State will be obliged to pay the compensations since the contracts include the right to an indexation increase, while the non-enforcement of the increase was done by order of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

It is recalled that last year the then minister Kostas Karamanlis had requested that there be no increases at all for 2023, however the companies came back after the elections raising the issue to Christos Staikouras, who described the consortia as “unreliable”. Finally there was an agreement a few days ago.

Tolls: This is the future – Where they are completely abolished

The future of car travel is shown by Poland as it completely abolishes them toll booth.

A landmark decision was made by Poland for its citizens, with the country’s prime minister proclaiming that the highways are to serve the citizens.

According to Euronews, the government has already adopted a law on the abolition of tolls, according to which the passage will henceforth be free, at least on those highways managed by the state.

It is noted that this was for one of the three main commitments of the government program of the Law and Justice Party, which was observed and will provide great relief to the citizens of the country.

Tolls: Coming to the center of Athens – Even 20 euros to get in and out

Even more than 20 euros a day is charged to enter the center of big cities, which try to limit traffic in this way. What will happen in Athens? All developments at xristika.gr.

It is a huge problem that plagues all the major cities of the world, all over the planet.

The reason for traffic congestion which, as cars and the population of cities increase, becomes more unbearable for the residents.

Authorities in many cities around the world have decided to put restrictions in place. And among the measures adopted by cities such as London is access to the center through a fee.

New York will soon join this measure of tolls for entering congested traffic areas. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that she has already gotten the go-ahead from the Federal Highway Administration to impose a toll to enter Manhattan.

The program aims to reduce congestion and generate revenue for future transport improvements.

Under the plan, a variable toll would apply to vehicles entering the area, except for authorized emergency vehicles and vehicles carrying people with disabilities.

As for the price, it will reach up to 23 dollars (21 euros) and will depend on the income of each driver.

The charge will be made once a day with the driver being able to get in and out as many times as he wants.

The city will collect about $1 billion a year, which will be used to support public transportation such as buses and the subway.

It will take some time to complete the necessary work on the cameras and the corresponding instruments for charging drivers, but the authorities claim that it could start in 2024.

As for the demand, it is estimated that the toll will result in a 15-20% reduction in the number of vehicles entering Manhattan, or about 110,000 to 143,000 fewer vehicles each day.
