With a heavy indictment, 64 people, among the leading members of the association of organized fans, who are involved in the murder of MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis during incidents outside the closed stadium in Rentis, are being brought to the public prosecutor today.
Of those arrested:
- 63 are charged with organized crime, 3 with drugs and one with the Weapons Act
- 19 for sports violence
- 13 for organized crime
- 12 for drugs
- 12 YDEZI
- 11 State Security
The file that has been drawn up is voluminous – over 3,000 pages – and includes testimonies, videos and other findings that describe the actions of 158 people who, since 2019, are allegedly involved in incidents of fan violence in Attica and the province.
The moral perpetrators – The Romanian, the manager
In the previous months, an 18-year-old man was arrested as the natural perpetrator of the fatal injury of the 31-year-old MAT deputy constable, Giorgos Lyggeridis.
However, the “very tough core of hooligans”, the leading core, amounts to around 20 people with EL.AS. to now have information about three to five people who had the role of moral author and are among the 158.
I.A. is considered to have played a key role, who at the time of his arrest had about 5,000 euros in cash on him, with the authorities estimating that he might have been planning to escape from Greece, as they realized that the cordon was tightening around him. In fact, after the fatal wounding of Giorgos Lyggeridis, he seems to have traveled to a Balkan country and stayed there for a period of time, in order to follow the developments in the investigation.
The role of the manager of the well-known trapper (he was from the first moment among the main suspects), who allegedly gave the 18-year-old natural perpetrator the fatal flare, is also important.
An equally well-known figure among the hooligans is the so-called “Romanian”, who was also arrested during the operation of the Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues.
Sources of EL.AS. they describe on flash.gr how the members of the criminal organization (s.s. this charge will be attributed to the vast majority of those arrested) acted with a different composition each time. The reason for 60 of those arrested, while the remaining 4 are on a case-by-case basis for the Narcotics Act and the Arms Act.
The reaction of Giorgos Lyggeridis’ father
“I believe that his memory should be vindicated” said the father of Yoros Lyggeridis who was informed about the developments of the arrests while he was at an event on sports violence organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers.
