As usual, we commemorate Saint George the Trophy Bearer on April 23rd.

However, this year his feast day falls on Easter Monday, May 6, 2024.

Besides, the feast of St. George is movable, meaning that it moves calendar-wise.

If Easter is after April 23, then it is celebrated on the day after Easteri.e. Monday of Diakainisimo.

The holidays that coincide with Great Lent or Holy Week, such as the feast of St. George or St. Mark, are moved to the Sunday before them or the week of Intercalation, i.e. the week after Easter Sunday.

If April 23rd falls before Easter, the feast of St. George is moved to Easter Monday. This happens because during the season of Lent, from Sunday afternoon to Friday morning, we mourn. Therefore, there are no festive celebrations.

However, the belief that St. George is honored after Easter is not correct, as the church tropes of St. George contain resurrection words, which cannot be heard before the Resurrection of the Lord. After all, every Sunday is resurrection day.

It’s just that the Order of St. George was written before the calendar change, and then the feast always fell after Easter.
