ELAS Leader: “Criminal organization with 158 members behind the Lyggeridis murder”

Criminal organization with 158 members, which has been active since 2019 is behind the murder of the MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, as the head of the Police, Dimitris Mallios, said in his statement. According to the Head of EL.AS, 60 arrests have already been made while the accused have allegedly committed felonies and misdemeanors in addition to Attica, Volos and Ioannina.

The statement of Mr. Mallios states the following:

“In the last 4 months, the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, conducted an extensive investigation under the utmost secrecy to fully elucidate the criminal hooligan attack in the area of ​​Rentis, which resulted in the death of YAT police officer Georgios Lyggeridis.

As is already known, in order to solve this murderous attack, from the first moment, more than 400 prosecutions had been made, so that no conviction was lost, while one person had been arrested and brought to justice.

Subsequently, the case file compiled included testimony, video and other findings that demonstrated the existence of a criminal organization behind the attack, while confirming a link between sports violence and organized crime.

In particular, evidence emerged of a criminal organization, consisting of 158 members, which, at least since 2019, committed felony and misdemeanor criminal acts and operated mainly in Attica, Volos and Ioannina.

In order to dismantle the criminal organization in question, from the early hours of this morning, as part of the ongoing preliminary investigation, a wide-ranging police operation was carried out, with the assistance of the EKAM. and police dogs, resulting in the arrest of 60 people so far.

At the same time, 58 searches have been carried out in houses and 15 in vehicles and a number of persuasive items such as pistols, wooden bats, knives, drugs, clothing, digital media and others have been seized.

Chrysochoidis: Justice will be served in the case of Giorgos Lyggeridis – The message he sent to his parents

The assurance that justice will be served, as provided for by the Republic and our Constitution in the case of Giorgos Lyggeridis, was given by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.

Speaking at the POASY conference, after the arrests made for the murder of the policeman, Mr. Chrysochoidis emphasized that mourning should be turned into action “both for the one who “left” and for those who remain behind. We must review the entire legal regime around the protection of victims of violence and terrorism.”

“George will be with us every day, to remind us how precious human life is and how abhorrent, murderous and destructive violence is for any society,” noted Mr. Chrysochoidis.

At the same time, he sent a message to the parents of Giorgos Lyggeridis, but also to the parents of each victim. “They will not be alone. The Greek Police, but also all of Greece, will be by your side, so that every day we can fight, fight and fight not only as a society, but also as a Police, to fight crime”, he underlined.
