Lock in the courts from today due to lawyers’ abstention

--

On foot are the lawyers for the new Judicial Charter, the discussion of which is expected to begin today in the competent Committee of the Parliament, while on the ramparts are judicial officials and court employees.

In opposition to the provisions of the bill, the lawyers decided to block all court proceedings, starting abstinence from today until Holy Tuesday, April 30, a fact which, in view of the Easter holidays in the Courts, means that all proceedings will resume after the festive period.

In practice, this means that a series of court cases will be put on hold, while the referendum of the lawyers of Athens and Piraeus has already started on the key issue of the 5 regional Courts of First Instance provided for by the Ministry of Justice bill.

From Tuesday April 22, normally until Holy Tuesday, but practically due to the Easter holidays until the Monday of Thomas, the country’s lawyers, by decision of their Plenary, descend into universal abstinence, with permits essentially being given only if there is a risk of statute of limitations.

Reactions are brought by the new Judicial Charter also to the judicial officers who proceed on Wednesday, April 24, to abstain from their duties for 24 hours.
