Sahara Greece today: Live the course of the African dust

--

Today, Greece and especially the southern parts are reminiscent of the Sahara, as the African dust is at its peak today. Today’s conditions are expected to be difficult on the island of Crete and in the southern Peloponnese, since they will be the areas, according to the windy, that will receive the biggest blow.

The weather will be fickle in the Ionian, continental and northern Aegean, where clouds with local rains are predicted and in the northern Ionian and the western, central and northern continental sporadic storms.

The temperature rises today and will reach 22 to 23 degrees in the north, 24 to 27 in the rest of the country and in northern Crete locally 29 to 30 degrees Celsius, but it can also exceed 33 degrees locally.

African dust trail live:

The rains that will occur today will be mud showers, while there will also be gale force winds on the seas.

Today’s dust transport episode will reach its peak and from Thursday it will recede, when the atmosphere will clear.

The strong east-southeast winds will reach 8 Beaufort, with gusts even up to 9 Beaufort in the Aegean. In the central areas they will bring mud showers, dust in the central and northern areas, cloudy, but also 30 degrees Celsius in northern Crete while in Florina the thermometer will not exceed 12 degrees.

As mentioned in his post by the director of the EMY Thodoris Kolidas, the large temperature difference between North-West Greece and the South Island regions is not unprecedented and the 30 days that are expected in Crete will not be many while “an important role will be played again by the locally enhanced downdrafts Foen type winds».

Meteo maps with African dust

According to the prognostic data of meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens, on Tuesday 23/04, in addition to the greatly increased concentrations of dust that will limit visibility, mud rains are expected to occur mainly in the north and west of the country.

On Wednesday 24/04 the turn of the winds to the west will result in the limitation of dust in the Dodecanese and its progressive removal towards the east.

The forecast maps below show:

– With red shades, the concentration of dust in the atmosphere during the midday and evening hours of Tuesday 23/04.

– With yellow shades the areas where mud rains will occur during the same time intervals.
