The two earthquakes were particularly felt in the capital Taipei, while there are no reports of major damage so far.

Strong earthquake occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Taiwan according to the island’s weather service.

According to APE-MPE, it happened at 02:32 in the morning on Tuesday (local time, 21:32 on Monday in Greece).

The epicenter of the earthquake is located in Hualien province (east) and the focal depth is estimated at 5.5 kilometers, according to a related announcement, while six minutes earlier a 6-magnitude earthquake preceded it, with an epicenter a few kilometers to the north.

The two earthquakes were particularly felt in the capital Taipei, while there are no reports of major damage so far.

Seismic activity is on the rise in Taiwan after the powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake that shook the island on April 3.
