Murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis: How the EL.AS investigation was kept secret. for hooligans

THE This “closed” group of police officers operated in absolute secrecy, as everyone knew that a leak would cause reactions, pressures, and possibly threats. In fact, especially in the last period before the police operation, those involved in the investigation they were taking increased self-protection measures -some were not even guarded by other special services policemen-. “Take the investigation to the end and find those responsible”, was the order of the political and physical leadership, while the absolute “sealing of the investigation” was ensured, which led to the file of approximately 3,000 pages.

The fact that hundreds of arrests were made, 64 arrests, 58 house searches, 15 vehicles checked and that the defendants reached their total 158 shows that the secrecy paid off. It is worth noting that among those arrested are “heavy” names, while one of them – “Joseph” – he allegedly had a large amount of cash on him and was planning to flee abroad. In the voluminous case file, his role is described in detail, just like every defendant in the criminal organization.
