Taiwan: Over 80 tremors

--

Barrages of earthquakes (80 to be exact), of which the largest had a magnitude of 6.3, have been recorded in the last eight hours in Taiwan by the relevant agencies.

The epicenter is located in Hualien Province, on the eastern tip of the island. Seismic activity has been on the rise since the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on April 3 and killed 14 people.

According to the fire department in Hualien, a hotel that had already suffered significant damage from the April 3 earthquake and had been evacuated is on standby.

It is worth noting that earthquakes are frequent in Taiwan, as the island is located near the point where two tectonic plates meet. In September 1999 earthquake 7.3 points had killed more than 2,000 people, in the worst disaster in Taiwan’s modern history.
