ELAS for Rentis: “A criminal organization with 158 members is involved in the murder of the policeman”

The head of the Greek Police made it known that evidence has emerged for criminal organization with 158 members, which is related to the murder of the policeman in Rentis.

The lieutenant general Dimitrios Mallios specifically stated that “in the last 4 months, the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, conducted an extensive investigation under the utmost secrecy for the complete clarification of the criminal hooligan attack in the Rentis area, which had as resulting in the death of YAT police officer Georgios Lyggeridis.

As is already known, in order to solve this murderous attack, from the first moment, more than 400 prosecutions had been made, so that no conviction was lost, while one person had been arrested and brought to justice.

The case file then compiled included testimony, videos and other findings that demonstrated the existence of a criminal organization behind the attack, while confirming a link between sports violence and organized crime.

In particular, evidence emerged of a criminal organization, consisting of 158 members, which, at least since 2019, committed felony and misdemeanor criminal acts and operated mainly in Attica, Volos and Ioannina.

In order to dismantle the criminal organization in question, from the early hours of this morning, as part of the ongoing preliminary investigation, a wide-ranging police operation was carried out, with the assistance of the EKAM. and police dogs, resulting in the arrest of 60 people so far.

At the same time, 58 searches have been carried out in houses and 15 in vehicles and a number of persuasive items such as pistols, wooden bats, knives, drugs, clothing, digital media and others have been seized.

Fan gate leaders

According to OPEN, among those arrested are three leading members of a certain fan base, who allegedly gave orders and distributed roles in the criminal organization. The specific individuals have employed ELAS in the past.

According to police sources, the operation found clothes worn by those involved in the incidents at Rentis, since they were recorded on video from inside the stadium at the moment they left the stands to attack the MAT.

Also, after the incidents, clothes that the hooligans had tried to burn were found in the toilets of the stadium. However, DNA and fingerprints were found from the investigations in the forensic laboratories, which led to the traces of the perpetrators.

Those arrested are said to be involved in at least 10 other incidents of fan violence, apart from the attack on Rentis. The arrested are said to be involved in incidents in Volos, Larissa, Ioannina, New Philadelphia, Crete, Tripoli, Malakassa.
