Criminal organization with 158 members behind the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis

A criminal organization with 158 members, operating since 2019, is behind the murder of MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis outside a volleyball court in Rentis.

As stated by the head of the Police, Dimitris Mallios, 60 arrests have already been made for the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis in Rentis, while the accused have committed felonies and misdemeanors in Attiki, Volos and Ioannina.

The statement of Mr. Mallios is as follows: In the last 4 months, the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, conducted an extensive investigation under the utmost secrecy for the complete clarification of the hooligan’s criminal attack in area of ​​Rentis, which resulted in the death of YAT police officer Georgios Lyggeridis.

As is already known, in order to solve this murderous attack, from the first moment, more than 400 prosecutions had been made, so that no conviction was lost, while one person had been arrested and brought to justice.

Subsequently, the case file compiled included testimony, video and other findings that demonstrated the existence of a criminal organization behind the attack, while confirming a link between sports violence and organized crime.

In particular, evidence emerged of a criminal organization, consisting of 158 members, which, at least since 2019, committed felony and misdemeanor criminal acts and operated mainly in Attica, Volos and Ioannina.

In order to dismantle the criminal organization in question, from the early hours of this morning, as part of the ongoing preliminary investigation, a wide-ranging police operation was carried out, with the assistance of the EKAM. and police dogs, resulting in the arrest of 60 people so far.

At the same time, 58 searches have been carried out in houses and 15 in vehicles and a number of persuasive items such as pistols, wooden bats, knives, drugs, clothing, digital media and others have been seized.

Charges also for attempted murder

According to their lawyers, several of the 57 arrested detained in GADA are facing the additional charge of attempted murder and will be brought to the prosecutor’s office tomorrow morning. And this is because on the fateful night of December 7, apart from the confessed young killer of Giorgos Lyggeridis, there were also complaints of attacks by fans against other MAT police officers outside the closed “Melina Merkouri” gym in Rentis.

According to information, most of those arrested so far are the core of the organization, while the remaining 100 people wanted belong to the category of wider participation of the criminal organization.

Among those arrested is reportedly the 16-year-old brother of the 18-year-old who has been arrested as the person who fired the naval flare that killed the 31-year-old police officer.

During their operation, the police officers of the Athletics sub-division? The manager of a well-known trapper was almost handcuffed, but also a person who is considered to be the chief executive of fans of a major football team. In the case file that has been formed and includes 158 people, in addition to the bloody episode of December 7th, there are also three other incidents of fan violence in Volos, Ioannina and Attiki.
