“At today’s Municipal Council, it will be decided whether or not to open the road in Vourli during the Easter period,” the deputy mayor for Technical Services Frangiskos Vakondios declares to logotypes.gr, with the mayor Alexis Athanasiou clarifying the following: “We, as elected officials, have decided the opening . But safety comes first. This is the most important thing.”
When asked if their concern is due to the appearance of some new problem, Mr. Athanasiou is straightforward, hastening to provide more clarifications: “There is no technical problem,” he says, and continues: “It was a little more difficult than it seemed at the beginning , the installation of the new sewer and rainwater pipes. And that’s because the road is very narrow and there are too many cosmote cables and optical fibers of all companies, rain, drains and now the stakes that have been installed. I want to say that the concrete treatment must be stabilized first. Then I think that within the week we will be able to say that dirt will fall on the road so that people can spend the days of the Easter holidays.
We are currently aiming to open this space as a pedestrian and small vehicle thoroughfare. Until the tie-downs are done – the road will be closed again afterwards – to join the piles together, and the 40-point slab is dropped to stabilize the whole system, no large vehicles will be able to pass. We will temporarily open the road on Easter.
