Five people are – according to the authorities – the leading group of those arrested and they will also be the ones who will be brought to the courts of the former Evelpidon School facing the charge of moral complicity for the case of the murder of the deputy police officer of the MAT, Giorgos Lyggeridis .
According to information, these are five Olympiacos fans, who are known in their area by the nicknames “kontos”, “omle”, “Romanos”, “Shark” and “kokos”.
They, according to the investigation of the officers of the Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues, met before the match outside the Karaiskaki stadium, collected the “munitions”, which were used in the attack against the MAT, and moved in a motorcade to the closed gym “Melina Merkouri” ».
According to police sources, while the match was in progress, one of them is seen on the cameras raising his hands and giving the signal to the hooligans to get out of the playing field, where they are handed Molotov cocktails, naval flares and other objects, to carry out the attack against the police officers.
More than sixty arrests were made by the police since the early hours of Monday, while in total the defendants are 165. In the presence of judicial officers, 58 searches were carried out in the homes of those arrested, where, among other things – according to police sources – they found clothes worn during the incidents .
The Chief of the Greek Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, also made a statement on the case, who, among other things, said: “In particular, evidence has emerged of a criminal organization, consisting of 158 members, who, at least since 2019, have committed felony and misdemeanor crimes actions and they operated mainly in Attica, Volos and Ioannina”.
The arrested are expected to be brought to the courts of the former Evelpidon School in the early morning of Tuesday, April 23, in order to face criminal charges.
