Lyggeridis murder: The natural perpetrator of the attack was identified in Ioannina – He tried to escape abroad

More than 60 prosecutions and arrests were made today, Monday, for the attack on MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis with a naval flare in Rentis, outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium on December 7th. The investigation “ran” all this time and the company of EL.AS. is in full swing, as the case file includes more than 150 people for involvement not only in the death of the policeman but also in other cases of fan violence. The arrested are expected to be brought before the Prosecutor’s Office tomorrow Tuesday, in order to be officially charged with the serious charges.

It is noted that the large operation of the Police began yesterday, Sunday, in the afternoon, from Ioannina. According to information cited by ERTNews, one of the natural perpetrators of the murderous attack against the policeman tried to escape abroad, probably to Albania. According to the same information, he was spotted in the city of Ioannina by police officers of the Sports Violence Department in a car moving towards the border.

Investigations followed in Attica and other regions of Greece. Among those arrested are said to be the five moral perpetrators and two leading members, i.e. the ones who gave the trigger for the attack against the MAT platoon. Information indicates that among them is the 18-year-old’s brother, who was arrested from the first moment as the natural perpetrator for the throwing of the naval flare.

In addition to the Attica Basin, surveys were carried out in Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. According to information from ERTNews, at least two pistols, naval flare launchers, several flares, bats and a radio tuned to the Police frequency were found. Clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack on MAT police officers were also found.

It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer died on December 27, after 20 days of hospitalization after being seriously injured by a naval flare during incidents outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium, where a volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos was being held.
