The AC Milan and Inter Milan ultras are enemies but have agreed, for decades, to avoid hostilities.

On March 16, we had transferred the what Marco Ferdicco, Curva Nord executive, told Corriere della Sera of the Nerazzurri. Statements he had referred to, commenting on Federico DiMarco’s behavior in last year’s semi-final Champions Leaguein an agreement between ultras of the two groups. An agreement that provides that there will be no slogans with references to wood, episodes, generally such settings. Also, that such situations would be avoided especially within the city. But how did this deal come about?

To find the answer, as Gazzetta dello Sport reminds us today (22/4), we have to go back to 1981. At that time, the first of the three “Mundialitos” of the 80s took place at San Siro with the participation, besides from the Milan and Inter, of Peñarol, Feyenoord and Santos. So in this friendly tournament, after the derby della Madonnina, there were incidents in which Vittore Palmieri, a fan of the Nerazzurri, was seriously injured and a few months later finally died. An event that had overshadowed, of course, anything competitive that had happened in the tournament.

After his death, the organized fans of the two teams made an agreement: “Never again incidents between us so that there will be no more dead”. Since then, as GdS points out, there have been cases where the deal could have been blown up. One of them, indicatively, was what Dimarco did and said last year with the megaphone in hand. In the end, however, logic prevailed and the agreement is still in force.
