More than 60 prosecutions and arrests were made in the last hours for the murderous attack on December 7th on MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, with a naval flare in Rentis, outside the “Melina Merkouri” volleyball court.

Those arrested will be brought before the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday to be formally charged with the serious charges.

The large operation of the Police started on Sunday afternoon from the city of Ioannina. According to information from ERTNews, one of the natural perpetrators of the murderous attack against the young police officer tried to escape abroad. He was probably fleeing to Albania. According to the same information, he was spotted in the city of Ioannina by police officers of the Sports Violence Department, riding in a car and moving towards the border.

Afterwards, investigations were carried out in Attica as well as in other regions of Greece. So far, 56 arrests have been made, among which are the five moral perpetrators and two leading members, that is, those who gave the trigger for the attack against the MAT platoon.

Information indicates that among those arrested is the brother of the eighteen-year-old, who was arrested from the first moment as a natural perpetrator, as he was the one who had thrown the naval flare.

In addition to the Attica basin, investigations were carried out in Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. According to information from ERTNews, at least two pistols, naval flare launchers, several flares, bats, and a radio tuned to the police frequency were found. Clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack on MAT police officers were also found.

It is recalled that the 31-year-old policeman passed away on December 27, after 20 days in hospital, after being seriously injured by a naval flare that he had received during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis, against during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
