The price of lamb will reach 12 to 13 euros per kilo, according to the estimates of the meat market players, ahead of Easter.

According to what they report, although it is still early for accurate estimates on the type of meat that has the greatest demand for the Easter days, the trend shows that it is upward.

A role in this trend seems to be played by the lack of the species in the market since Easter in our country falls late this year, while it was preceded by the Catholic Easter where several exports were made from Greece to Italy and abroad.

As a result of this, the lambs have become scarce and when an item that is in short supply in a period that is in demand, it is a law of the market that its price increases. In fact, based on the same estimates in Varvakeio and the Attica market, lamb can reach 14 euros on Easter days.

At the moment, however, the demand in the butchers of Patras is low and reservations for lamb are minimal. Those who reserve now, fearing they won’t be able to find later, are asking for small milk lambs weighing seven to nine kilos.

However, there will be not a few who are not going to order a whole lamb this year, but a part of it, not having the mood and the money to observe the custom of skewering the arrow. And of course those who go will skewer as a group, thus sharing the costs.
