Murder of a police officer in Rentis: One of the perpetrators tried to escape abroad – He was found in Ioannina

More than 60 additions and arrests were made in the last hours for her murderous attack on December 7 at MAT police officer, Giorgos Lyggeridiswith naval flare at Renti, “Melina Merkouri” shoots outside the stadium. The large operation of the Police started on Sunday afternoon from the city of Ioannina. According to ERTNews information, one of the natural authors of the murderous attack on the young policeman, tried to escape abroad. He was probably fleeing to Albania. According to the same information, he was spotted in the city of Ioannina by police officers of the Sports Violence Department, riding in a car and moving towards the border.

Afterwards, investigations were carried out in Attica as well as in other regions of Greece. So far they have been 56 arrestsamong which are the five moral authors and two chief membersi.e. the ones who gave the trigger for the attack against the MAT squads.

Information states that among those arrested is his eighteen-year-old brother, who had been apprehended from the first as a natural perpetrator, as it was he who had thrown the naval flare.

Apart from the Attica Basin, searches were carried out in Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. According to information from ERTNews, at least they were found two pistols, naval flare launchersenough flares, bats but it was found a radio tuned to the police frequencys. They were also found clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack at the expense of MAT police officers.

It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer passed away on December 27, after 20 days in hospital, after being seriously injured by a naval flare that he had received during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis during during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
