Lyggeridis murder: Among those arrested is the 16-year-old brother of the 18-year-old remanded in custody

The wide-ranging operation by the Sub-Directorate of Violence in Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since early morning, to identify and arrest people related to the murderous attack on the 31-year-old police officer, Giorgos Lyggeridis, in Rentis.

According to the latest information, more than 50 arrests have been made so far, while some have turned into arrests at the preliminary investigation stage.

Among those brought in, according to the same information, is the 16-year-old brother of the 18-year-old who threw the naval flare and killed the policeman.

As the 16-year-old had said in his supplementary statement that had been brought to light by Newpost, he had held a flare that was given to them by an unknown person, but without launching it. In this way he justified the dna, the prints found on a flare launcher and also the gunpowder. He denied that he took part in the episodes stating:

“Just as I went out to yell for my brother to go back and not go to the episodes someone I don’t know gave me a flare. I asked what it was and he said let’s go throw it away. I let her out of my hands and re-entered the field.”

It is recalled that his 18-year-old brother, who has already been remanded in custody, had revealed two faces. The first person wanted by the authorities is the stranger with the covered features and the beard, as the 18-year-old revealed in his statement.

This leads the experienced sports violence officers on a specific path to identify the stranger who was handing out flares to youngsters just before the incidents began. In fact, a sentence of the 18-year-old to the judicial officer about the order he received shows that the unknown person’s aim was to attack the police officers.

The threatening command to the 18-year-old was: “He gave me the flare and I went to leave, he pulled me and said Where are you going m…. I will c….”

The second person was a certain man active in fan violence and known in hooligan circles.
