Chania: Demonstrations for the death of Kostis Manioudakis

--

The reactions to the death of Kostis Manioudakis, who fell dead on September 1, 2023, during a police check in Vryses, Chania, continue. Recently, the Deputy Prosecutor of First Instance called the four police officers, who were in control, to give explanations without trial on the charge of “manslaughter with probable intent in a calm state of mind together”.

In the context of the police testimony, his family, but also the “Open Solidarity Assembly for the state murder of Kostis Manioudakis” carry out information activities about the case, while at the same time they call on those citizens who know something, not to be afraid and give the information to the lawyers, in order to reveal the truth. Marianna and Artemis, members of the solidarity assembly, were today at the studio of ERT Chania and, as they said, tonight, Monday at 9, there will be an open meeting in the yard of the re-occupier Kastelli Hill, in the Old Town of Chania.

Tomorrow Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 April, days that the police officers are expected to testify will take place gathering in Courts Square at 09:00. Tomorrow Tuesday, April 23, also at 6:30 p.mplanned gathering and march in the square of the Municipal Market.

Justice for the death of Kostis Manioudakis is requested by his family and supporters

It is recalled that, while the initial finding was that the 58-year-old had suffered a cardiac arrest, his relatives initially argued that he had been beaten by the police, resulting in his death. Four months later, the public medical examiner submits on January 9, 2024, the detailed expert report. In the report, a number of wounds, abrasions and exudations are methodically recorded on the head of Kostas Manioudakis. Following questions submitted by the family’s advocates, Thanasis Kabayannis, Maria Papadakis and Manolis Papadomanolakis, the medical examiner clarifies that they were caused by “the use of a blunt instrument, as the number and positions of the injuries cannot be justified by a fall from the same height”. He also notes that: “The stressful situation, as a consequence of the beating, can explain the ischemic episode, from which death occurred.” In an interview, Thanasis Kabayiannis clarifies: “When we talk about a blunt instrument, we mean globs, punches, kicks; in any case, we are talking about a beating, which resulted in the heart attack suffered by Kostas Manioudakis, which was also the final recorded cause of death.”
