A total of 65 people have been arrested so far from the wide operation of the police, on the occasion of assassination of Giorgos Lyggeridis, but also for incidents of fan violence.

The operation is in full swing with the police executing arrest warrants for mainly organized fans who are, in one way or another, involved in the murder of the MAT policeman last December outside the “Melina Merkouri” indoor stadium in Rentis.

Findings from the scene of the fight, eyewitness accounts, analysis of phone calls and surveillance footage led investigators to issue the warrants early this morning.

Police raids on houses

Dozens of police officers from various security agencies raided houses in Piraeus, Drapetsona, Tavros, Korydallos, in the center of Athens and Zografou to locate and arrest the suspects.

All of them are accused of the crime of joining a criminal organization and are expected to be brought before the investigator handling the case today.

This is one of the biggest police operations in organized fandom and at the moment the police are not revealing how many people are still wanted.

However, according to the same journalistic information, for some time now strong forces of the MAT, the YAT and other agencies are heading towards Drapetsona, Tavros and Korydallos, where there are reports of gatherings of organized fans.
