ELAS announced on Monday morning the arraignment and arrest of people allegedly related to the death of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis outside the Melina Merkouris stadium in Rentis.
ELAS’ announcement about the business:
“A large-scale operation by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in the sports grounds of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since the early hours of this morning to arrest people involved in the incident of the fatal injury of a police officer on 7-12-2023 at a sports event in Renti. So far, dozens of people have been brought in as well as a large number of searches in homes and vehicles, while various items of evidence have been seized.”
The number of arrests, according to ERT, is at least 50. According to information, the charges that those arrested will face relate to a criminal organization.
Giorgos Lyggeridis passed away on December 27, after a tough battle that he fought for 20 days, following his serious injury.
The 31-year-old had received a naval flare in the incidents that took place in Rentis’ closed, during the “eternal” derby, Olympiacos – Panathinaikos, for the League Cup.
