A major police operation is underway by the Sports Violence Department of the Hellenic Sports Association throughout Attica in relation to the case of the murder of YAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, in the incidents with hooligans in Rentis, last December.
According to information broadcast by ERT on Monday morning, the Police have already made approximately 50 arrests and dozens of arrests!
According to the same source, dozens of houses and places related to people involved in the fan movement have been searched.
Those arrested are expected to be brought before the prosecutor to be charged.
The following is the announcement of EL.AS regarding the operation:
“A large-scale operation by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in the sports grounds of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since the early hours of this morning to arrest people involved in the incident of the fatal injury of a police officer on 7-12-2023 at a sports event in Renti.
So far, dozens of people have been brought in as well as a large number of searches in homes and vehicles, while various items of evidence have been seized.”
On the night of December 7, 2023, the 31-year-old police officer was seriously injured by a direct shot of a naval flare during hooligan incidents outside the “Melina Merkouri” indoor stadium in Rentis. After a long battle to stay alive, he breathed his last in the ICU of the General Hospital of Nice on December 27.
