The prices of Easter foods and dishes are starting to rise early, while the Easter basket will start from next Wednesday, April 24.

For example, confectionery shops are already seeing the first product price increases. As MEGA reports, the first cocoa-based Easter products have already gone on sale, but traditional chocolate eggs and bunnies are costing more in large part due to international increases in cocoa prices.

As Newsbomb.gr reported, the price of cocoa has skyrocketed, with futures contracts more than doubling in three months. It is a development that has its roots in the small farms of West Africa, but it is also an outgrowth of climate change and the complexity of the futures market.

Where prices are moving in the market

According to market data, prices for products made from cocoa have risen by up to 40% in the past two years.

What Kostas Skrekas said

“It will be applied to the Easter basket this year as well,” recently stated the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas and added that the prices of lambs will be the same or lower than last year.

The minister said that the estimate for how much the Easter table will cost is that it will fluctuate on average at the same levels as last year. Speaking to realfm 97.8, Mr. Skrekas estimated that the prices of amnoerifis will be below 10 euros per kilo, while he emphasized that the checks on the entire range of the market are continuing with unabated intensity.

The godfather’s basket

“The Godfather’s Basket is something completely different. It has to do with products that are not food, they are toys or candles or other types of products that young consumers buy. It has nothing to do with the food part, so it is not included in the basic basket of the household” said Secretary of Commerce Sotiris Anagnostopoulos to ERTNEWS a few days ago.

Game businesses with an annual turnover of more than 1,000,000 euros participate in this, as well as voluntarily those with a smaller turnover who wish to do so.

The toy categories that will be formed by the relevant ministry and from which each business will choose each week the products that will make up its catalogs, are expected to be similar to those at Christmas. However, candles with toys will also be added for godparents shopping for their godparents.

The “godfather’s basket” in toy stores is modeled after the “Santa’s basket” that came into force at Christmas time.

It will include a total of 12 toy categories as follows: candles and toys, chocolate eggs, board games and puzzles, doll toys, dollhouses and other accessories (imitation toys), baby toys, action figures, construction and creation toys (e.g. bricks), vehicles – radio controlled, electronic toys, sports toys (eg balls, children’s basketballs and goals), soft toys and musical toys.
