Great police operation has been ongoing since Sunday evening by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues in collaboration with other services of the Hellenic Police, following the investigation into the murderous attack with a naval flare against the 31-year-old MAT police officer on December 7, 2023 in Renti.
Information indicates that the police have proceeded in dozens of arraignments and arrests. Those arrested will be brought before the prosecutor to be charged.
According to ERT, dozens of houses were searched during the night.
A few days ago, the case file was delivered by the sub-directorate for dealing with violence in sports venues for the establishment of a criminal organization and arrest warrants were issued.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and remanded in custody for the case, with the investigation not stopping and the police officers of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues collecting evidence that led to today’s operation.
Among those arrested are many persons who have been employed for attacks as hooligans, while after the completion of the criminal case all those arrested will be brought to the Prosecutor’s Office.
It is reminded that Giorgos Lyggeridis had lost his life after being hit in the leg by a naval flare at the end of Decemberduring of incidents at the Rentis indoor stadium, in a volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
He fought for 20 days to keep himself alive but did not succeed.
