While traditionally popular holiday destinations, such as Mykonos or Santorini, keep prices low ahead of the Easter holidays (at least on the short-term rental platform Airbnb), other islands – and indeed much closer ones – are experiencing glory days, with prices they have taken the… uphill!
And the most characteristic example is none other than Hydra!
The data is provided by Nationwide Network of Real Estate Agents E-Real Estates and concern properties registered on short-term rental platforms, with the necessary footnote that these concern apartments or entire houses, but not villas and of course we are talking about the Easter period and more specifically the period from 3 to 6 Mayi.e. from Good Friday to Easter Monday, when the demand for accommodation peaks.
For Hydra, close to the capital, the cost of renting a property for 3 nights reaches 1,055 eurosa price about three times that of Mykonos where the corresponding amount (for example in the area of Ftelia) is 392 euros and something similar happens in Santorini for which the prices are formed at 272 euros.
One of the reasons for these large differences in cost is of course availability. And it should be noted that especially in the case of Hydra, the completeness reaches (always according to the available data) at 97%, which implies that the supply is not sufficient to meet the increased demand.
This is partly justified by the fact that several hosts on short-term rental platforms do not offer their properties during the Easter period and the figures do not refer to all of them, but only to pre-bookings for those available. With a very important part of the owners probably waiting for the summer season from now on, in most regions of Greece availability does not exceed 50 to 60%which will obviously change as we get closer to summer.
However, there is another island that surpasses Hydra in accommodation costs and it is the Spetses where they break every record for Easter, as well as for three nights in an entire residence of 60 square meters, the price is fixed at 1,185 euroswhile the occupancy is at much lower levels and reaches 62%.
For more… heavy wallets is also the Ermoupolis in the ever popular Syroswhere the price is set at 928 euros (with the occupancy of the available properties being at 82%, since no more than 40% of the total accommodations are offered), while it moves very high (as traditionally happens during the Easter holiday season) and the Corfu.
If someone closes for three days on the island of “Faiakon” (the figures refer to the capital) for that period they will need 780 euroswith pre-bookings for properties up to 5 kilometers from the center reaching 90%.
Finally, in Chios pre-bookings range from 78% and accommodation costs from 632 euros for 3 nights in the city of the Aegean island.
