Light on cause of death of the one-year-old baby in Kos, the autopsy was completed at noon on Sunday (21/4) at the Forensic Service of Rhodes, by the competent medical examiner who verbally informed the authorities of his findings, until his report is completed.
The coroner of Rhodes concluded that the child died of airway obstruction from feedinghe choked on food, that is, while the police found on the floor of the house vomit with fried potatoes, with which the parents apparently fed their baby.
The bruises and the abrasions have time discrepancies between them and they cannot be attributed to abuse according to the findings of the medical examiner and the relaxation of the child’s rectum is attributed to his death.
After all this, the Roma parents, 20 and 21 years old respectively, who are detained in Kos Security, will face charges of fatal exposure of a minor, as a relevant case file is being filed against them. Just in case, the family’s two-year-old boy has also been sent to the Forensic Service of Rhodes.
The timeline of the case
It all started yesterday shortly before 8 in the evening, when the 20 year old mother of the baby, while at their home in Kos, found that her minor daughter had lost consciousness.
He then tried to help her while at the same time shouting for help. Then, tenants of the apartment building rushed to their house in order to help. About half an hour later, the baby’s mother called an EKAV ambulance and at the same time a neighbor of the apartment building gave her first aid until the EKAV rescuers arrived, who they determined that the baby was not breathing and applied the appropriate resuscitation protocols.
Then they transferred the child to the General Hospital of Kos, where the doctors initially found, presence of undigested food in his respiratory system, resulting in no flow of oxygen. Despite the efforts of the doctors, the infant ended up just before 9pm.
Examining the child, however, the doctors also noticed that the baby was carrying abrasions and generalized juices in various parts of his body as well as that the anal ring was loose which is not consistent with his age and so they called the Security Department of Kos, whose police officers went to the Hospital, where during the macroscopic examination they confirmed what the doctors said.
The police officers, after these findings, proceeded to induction in Security, both of the infant’s mother and his father, who in the meantime had gone to the Hospital. They claimed to the police that the injuries suffered by the baby came either from blows received by her two-year-old brother, or from some accidents, while regarding the anal ring they declared ignorance.
They were taken by the Police ten affidavits from the doctor of the General Hospital of Kos, the rescuers of the EKAV and from the residents who came to help. An autopsy of the infant was ordered at the Forensic Service of Rhodes and an investigation-autopsy was carried out at the family’s home, in the presence of a judicial official and members of the Office of Criminal Investigations of Kos. The child’s father has been involved with the authorities in the past for child pornography and similar material has been found on his mobile phone.
