The local community in Kos has been left speechless, but public opinion has also been united due to the death of the one-year-old infant. According to the information so far, the infant died of suffocation while eating boiled potatoes.

At the same time, his parents are being detained at the island’s police station, while tomorrow, Monday, they are expected to appear before the prosecutor on the charge of fatally exposing a minor to danger.

It all started yesterday, Saturday 4/20, shortly before 8:00 p.m. when the mother realized that the infant was unconscious and called the EMS. The ambulance arrived at 8:25 and seven minutes later, the infant was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at a quarter past nine.

“When the emergency doctor came, she was shouting for someone to bring a defibrillator. The mom is seven months pregnant, what she was saying is that she had fed the baby potato chips and put her to bed and she didn’t know exactly what happened,” said an eyewitness.

At the same time, a local media journalist reported that she met the mother at the island’s hospital and shared the communication she had with her. According to the journalist, the infant’s mother told her in shock that “my child is dead”.

The doctors at the Kos hospital performed CPR on the infant for some time, but this did not prove to be life-saving.

What did the forensic examination show?

The medical examiner who examined the infant in Rhodes found no traces of sexual abuse. He judged that death came from suffocation due to undigested food and that the abrasions, which this brought, probably came from previous blows.

Indeed, the parents who are in custody tried to explain the marks the infant had on his body by pointing out that they were due to minor accidents and hits from his two-year-old brother.

In fact, it seems that the authorities’ investigations have included the other child of the family, who is being examined by the medical examiner to determine if he too bears signs of abuse.

The parents to the prosecutor

Tomorrow, Monday 22/4, the infant’s parents are expected to appear before the prosecutor on the charge of fatally exposing a minor to danger. The 21-year-old father and 20-year-old mother had gone to Kos to work ahead of the summer tourist season. In fact, the mother is 7 months pregnant.

According to information, the infant’s other sibling will also be examined as well as the environment in which the family lived, in order to check the suitability of an infant.
