Alalum in the apologies of the accused for the murder in Kyparissia

Three defendants, two different versions in their apologies, for the brutal murder of the 31-year-old Albanian land worker in November 2022 on the beach of Kartela Kyparissia, which had shocked the local community, and in the middle the Mixed Jury Court of Kalamata, which is called to find the truth about what happened that night.

The trial, which has started since the 12th of the month, continued on Thursday with the statements of the remaining witnesses and on Friday with the apologies of the accused, which gathered the interest of the audience and several lawyers – observers.

Accused are a 32-year-old Albanian and former roommate of the victim, a 26-year-old Roma and a 32-year-old Greek woman, with the latter two maintaining a common line in their apologies. They all face the serious charges of manslaughter, committed jointly in a calm state of mind, robbery committed jointly with particular cruelty, illegal possession of a weapon and use of a weapon.

Their motive is said to be financial, as that night they all met together in a bar in Kyparissia, with the victim – according to witnesses – having 12,000 euros on him, but when he was found dead, the money had gone “wings”.

The one version
In his apology, the 32-year-old Albanian said that they were all having fun together in a bar in Kyparissia and described how they met. As he mentioned, it was the first time he was seeing his co-accused Roma, while he hinted that something romantic was “playing” with the 32-year-old accused and the 26-year-old. Late at night and after they had had enough to drink, the 32-year-old asked him (and after the victim had joined their company) to take them with his car somewhere deserted together with the 31-year-old, because the victim did not have papers to go to a hotel .

He accepted, while 26-year-old Roma asked to go with them for a walk. When they reached Kartela beach, the couple drove away, while he and the 26-year-old stayed in the car. He also mentioned that the 26-year-old told him at some point that he would go out for a cigarette and lost him. He also assumed that he found in the seat where he was sitting a beam that he himself had from work. Then he heard voices and then he went to the place where he heard the commotion. There he found his compatriot dead on the ground, the girl shouting “why” and Roma telling him that “whatever happened, happened” and asking him to hit the victim with the stick too, so that no one would talk for what happened. He, he continued, with the girl carried the victim to the sand, while Roma gave them the money he had taken from the 31-year-old. He even described everything they did until the Police arrested them and the girl, while emphasizing that they implicated him and he is “guilty against his will”.

And the other version
For her part, the girl said that she used to be in a relationship with the first accused, which is why “what she is saying now is out of jealousy” because of her relationship with the 26-year-old Roma.

As he described, all four of them left the store together, but the first one, instead of taking them home, pulled away. He claimed the 32-year-old was arguing with the victim in their language the whole way. At the beach they got out of the car, while she and Roma stayed inside. After a few minutes he came out and heard voices, while going further he found them fighting. The 32-year-old chased her away, returned to the car and did not say anything to the 26-year-old, while 20 minutes later the 32-year-old also returned, telling her the victim would return with some others.

The 26-year-old accused also described the same, stressing that he was very drunk when they left the bar, he did not understand many things and did not know where they took him. He said that the 32-year-old Albanian did everything himself, claiming that he is saying these things because he wants to destroy him. In fact, he noted that when he remembered seeing him throw something while returning to the car, he told the police, who searched the area and found the stick with which he had hit the victim.

The trial will continue today at the request of the prosecutor.
