The local community of Kos is in shock due to the death of the infant and the parents have been arrested and tomorrow they will go to the prosecutor.
The medical examiner is expected to examine the infant’s 2-year-old brother.
The one-year-old girl was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon unconscious. The mother had spotted her and tried to help her but to no avail. After he started shouting, the tenants of the apartment building they tried to help her.
EKAV rescuers rushed to the scene, and found that the infant was not breathing. They attempted to resuscitate and transferred the infant to the General Hospital of Kos.
At 7:45 p.m. the young mother realized that her baby was unconscious and half an hour later she called EKAV, after trying to bring him back together with the neighbors. The ambulance arrived at 20:25 and after 7 minutes took the baby to the hospital, but the doctors pronounced him dead.
“When the emergency doctor came, she was shouting for someone to bring a defibrillator. The mom is seven months pregnant, what she was saying is that she had fed the baby potato chips and put her to bed and she didn’t know what exactly happened.”reports an eyewitness.
The doctors saw that the respiratory tract of the little girl had undigested food, while they also detected abrasions and ecchymosis in some parts of his body. They asked for further examination to determine if she had been sexually abused.
According to the medical examiner, of course, there were no traces of sexual abuse, and he ruled that his death was caused by suffocation. According to him the abrasions are probably due to earlier blows.
The parents, who were arrested, claimed that the injuries sustained by the infant came from or from an accidentor from beatings received by her brother, aged 2 years.
The testimonies of the neighbors: “The husband was abusing her”
The neighbors, however, spoke to MEGA and said that they saw the 20-year-old being beaten many times while, according to witnesses, the couple was fighting.
“Her husband, the husband, was abusing her. We had seen her in the neighborhood a few times to bear some bruises herselfsigns which he did not justify”an eyewitness reported.
“I had a fuss, I had seen the girl beaten many times. Now, whether he hit her or didn’t hit her, I don’t know. I didn’t see them together all the time. I saw more of the girl”, a neighbor of the couple said.
Both the child’s 21-year-old father and 20-year-old mother are charged with exposure of a minor resulting in death.
What worries the authorities about the father
The authorities searched the father’s cell phone and computer because he was previously charged with pornography, for which he was already arrested. There were traces of child pornography on his mobile phone.
