The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives passed a package of bills yesterday giving $95 billion in military hardware to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan; after months after months of arguments and counter-appeals.
The unusual package of four bills in addition to arms to Ukraine, it also includes giving US military aid to Israel, giving aid to Taiwan and other US allies in the Asia-Pacific region, and a measure that includes sanctions and measures against the Chinese social media app TikTok and possible transfer of seized Russian assets to Ukraine.
The American president Joe Biden urged the Senate to quickly put the package of bills to a vote, so that after its approval it would go to the president for signature, the White House announced.
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the passage of the bill. The aid – which comes at a time when Kiev is in a difficult position, as all indications are that the Russian military is close to victory – aims to change the balance on the war front.
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharkova stated last night that the bill would “deepen crises around the world.”
“Military aid to the Kiev regime is a direct sponsorship of terrorist activity”Zakharova pointed out on Telegram.
“For Taiwan, this is meddling in China’s internal affairs. For Israel, it is a full-speed march to escalation and an unprecedented escalation of tension in the region.”he added.
