Netflix’s upcoming six-episode miniseries titled “The Asuda Case” is based on a true story that happened in 2013 and is considered one of the most shocking recorded in Spain.

The series retraces the horrific events of the murder of 12-year-old Asuda Basterra

The baby girl was born in 2000 in China and was adopted at the age of nine months by Alfonso Basterra Camporro and Maria del Rosario Porto Ortega, a wealthy couple from Spain.

Asuda was a gifted child who excelled both in school and in various artistic activities, and was said to be well-loved by her adoptive family.

When the little girl was found dead, a terrifying truth came to light. The medical examiner’s report showed that Asuda had been sedated with a fatal dose of Lorazepam, and her death was due to strangulation. But the shocking thing was that behind her horrible murder, were her parents.

Ashuda’s body, whose limbs were tied with an orange rope, was found on a secluded road in a forest, a few kilometers away from the family’s country house. DNA evidence, the couple’s strange behaviour, traces of orange rope and a tranquilizer found in their holiday home were enough to convict her parents. The mother as it turned out had strangled her child while her husband had helped her in the murder.

Asuda’s mother was found hanged in her prison cell in November 2020, where she was serving an 18-year sentence for murdering her adopted daughter.

The series “The Asuda Case” will premiere on Netflix on April 26.
