The parents, relatives, friends and medical examiner spoke on Friday evening (19-04-2024) about the strange death of the young soldier Manolis Tsiknakis, who was found dead under strange circumstances at the outpost on the island of Ro, on June 27, 2018, complaining the competent authorities (judicial, police – military services, etc.) that they essentially “baptized” his murder as suicide, they point out that they have been fighting for 6 years so that the truth can be seen…

Clearly overwhelmed by the tragic loss, his mother shows him the flag and hat that were handed to her the first time she went to the island.

“We experienced moments that cannot be described in words. I never believed that my Manolis committed suicide. I knew my child. Acquaintances and friends advised us to appoint technical advisers to find the edge and we are finding it.”

“Our life has changed. Every night when the front door closes, Manolis is absent. He is high with the angels. He went to serve the country and my country brought him back dead. The general called us and bluntly and coldly informed me that my son had committed suicide. But all the evidence we found points to the opposite. My son was shot with a small gun,” says his father.

The medical examiner Elpida Spanoudakis is the “catapult” in the Tunnel camera, to whom the family of the unfortunate infantryman assigned the case, after the findings that came to light.

“Regarding the colleague’s forensic report, it gives the cause of death as craniocerebral injuries from a firearm without mentioning whether it was short-barreled or long-barreled. But it does not give an answer to the type of death either. Basic questions that need to be answered”, stated Elpida Spanoudaki.

As he states, after examining the body of Manolis, he came to the following conclusions:

1st The shape and characteristics of the wound have not been caused by a long gun G3A3 which is also the weapon of the army. It appears instead to be from a pistol.

2nd When someone is hit by such a weapon massive damage is created to both the brain and the skull. Which is not the case in this particular case.

3rd There is no distinctive flamethrower print that is the front of the G3A3.

4th Due to the fact that no autopsy was performed at the site, all potential information that any medical examiner could have about the place and time of death has been lost.

5th A quantity of soot and gunpowder was found near his wound which shows us that he was shot at close range but not by direct contact.

“The provision of first aid to a victim who has been shot in the head does not exist. The doctor herself who went to the place distances us from the officially declared time of death as she mentions that when she saw Manolis his body was pale with cold extremities. So let’s go back a few hours. Based on the literature, the body loses its temperature after more than four hours,” adds medical examiner Spanoudaki.

“It is worth noting that the unfortunate Manolis was left-handed and we have the wound from the right. His body was moved to two different positions and thus altered the whole scene. Combined with the rest of the evidence we have, we conclude with certainty that this is a criminal act,” says the medical examiner.

The “Tunnel” spoke with the sister of Manolis Tsiknakis, the young soldier who was killed under strange circumstances on the rocky island of Ro.

“During the time when Manolis was preparing to become a soldier, we often talked about the things that troubled him and the things that made him laugh, the things he was making fun of in the army. We talked a lot.”

According to his sister, they had talked the previous afternoon and it was a normal day for him.

“Manolis wanted to go to Ro. There went an executive who was stricter and more formal.”

The sister and mother of the unfortunate Manolis went to the spot on the rock island where he breathed his last.

“There was an officer and he gave us a description. In particular, he pointed out the wrong point for me. After some time with a cooler look, I thought that the way he presented them to us, the representation he made us could not correspond to the truth.

Manolis was killed by someone else,” says his sister and wants to know who did it and why.

According to Manolis’ mother, the eyeglasses were the only thing they were given after the incident.

“I had the nerve two months later to go to the scene of the incident. They were all in a good mood to do whatever we asked of them. There I saw lies everywhere. The craziest thing is that they described an injury to me from the left side, while Manolis had been hit from the right,” says the mother of the unfortunate young man.

“Manolis was left-handed, but they didn’t know that. Significantly, his appearance was rotten. It was as if he had been dead for several hours.”

According to Manolis’ mother, the eyeglasses were the only thing they were given after the incident.

“I was impressed that one lens was missing. In the case file, we saw that they described that a few meters away from the child, his glasses and hat were found, without any trace of gunpowder or blood. Most likely he was hunted.”

As the soldier’s father reports, the conditions of the soldiers changed when a new lieutenant went to Ro.

The parents of the unfortunate soldier speak of a child full of joy who wanted to live his life.

“The evidence we have is overwhelming and the investigation should continue to find out who killed him. You understand our anger, and my anger as a father, that they would block the investigation of a child they brought dead.”

To a soldier who was in the same line as the young soldier who lost his life on the islet of Ro and saw a lot, the “Tunnel” spoke.

“The climate changed when the new senior duty officer came. He constantly raised alarms and tried to bring us to his standards, putting a lot of pressure on us. We were an infantry unit, not special forces. Manolis was cheerful and because of his humor we became closer,” he says.

On that fateful morning they were called out for report.

“We, the soldiers, gathered in front of the chambers, except for Manolis and the other who was in the guardhouse with him. I asked what had happened but no one knew, no one heard a shot. After a while, a boat entered the harbor, driven by a sergeant and inside were the lieutenant commander and the doctor.”

The witness added that when the executives arrived at the pier, they ran up to Mati where the guard was and he followed, taking the stretcher.

“When I got upstairs I saw the lieutenant doing CPR on Manolis. I stood over his corpse which was with the head turned to the left and the entrance wound from the right. His eyes were gray. When I heard that a bullet had gone through his head I couldn’t believe it. It’s impossible not to hear a shot from G3A3. Here we hear the footsteps of the mice. Manolis was killed by a pistol,” he said.
