Roula Pispirigou: The trial for the deaths of Malena and Iris begins today

Roula Pispirigou will sit on two different benches today, as today’s session on the case of the death of her first-born daughter Georgina, coincides with the scheduled start for the deaths of her two youngest children, Malena and Iris.

And, as everything shows, for the next period of time the mother of three children will be tried for this case, whose revelation shocked the whole of Greece, awaiting the judgment of justice for the criminal acts attributed to her, with the herself that she has not accepted what led her to the “double” court, denying that she harmed her children and much more that she is responsible for their death.

The “curtain” of today’s trial will begin with a different composition, both in terms of the three regular judges and the four jurors. The only thing that will be common in both criminal trials is that opposite the bench, there in the defense of the accusation, defending the memory of his children will be their father and ex-husband of the accused Manos Daskalakis.

And as it became known, shortly before the start of the trial, M. Daskalakis will ask the court to appoint ex officio lawyers to represent him, which means that the evidentiary process will not actually start today, as the new lawyers will they need to be informed of the facts of the case file, in a case that is expected to last many months. For the record, let’s mention that the trial for Georgina’s murder has started since last January and what is expected is the defendant’s apology and of course the prosecutor’s proposal that will follow, as well as the verdict of the members of the composition of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens.

In the second trial scheduled for today, Roula Pispirigou is accused of taking the life of her 3.5-year-old daughter Malena in 2019, the first child in the family to die, as well as the life of her six-month-old Iris in 2021, while the baby he slept in the same room as Georgina.

According to the case file, the two children died of suffocation. Roula Pispirigou is accused in this case that on April 13, 2019, inside the “Aglaia Kyriakou” hospital, she blocked the breathing of Malena, who was hospitalized after a successful treatment of lymphadenitis. Almost a year later, on March 21, 2021, he allegedly murdered six-month-old Iris by suffocation again while the infant was sleeping. Initially, the death of Malena, which had caused a huge surprise to the doctors of the Hospital, was attributed by a medical examiner to liver failure. For Iris, the initial assessment was that the baby died of sinus agenesis-hypoplasia.

The losses of the two children had been considered an unimaginable drama, however Georgina’s death, on January 29, 2022, led to the re-examination of the cases, with the result that their mother was accused in two different trials.

Roula Pispirigou, apologizing for the deaths of her two youngest daughters, claimed, as in the case of Georgina, that she is innocent and that she could not harm her children. The 35-year-old questions the position of medical examiners Nikos Karakoukis and Nikos Kalogrias, who ruled that the two youngest girls of the Daskalakis family died of suffocation.
