The developments on the way to the Central Committee of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, which will be held next weekend, are taking the form of an avalanche and will largely decide the unity or division of the official opposition party.

SYRIZA-PS secretary Giorgos Vasiliadis and Kilkis MP Petros Pappas announced in today’s statements that the upcoming Central Committee will not be one of… deletions.

Mr. Pappas specifically stated that the Central Committee “is not responsible for deletions, it is the disciplinary department that makes files, sends them to the Central Committee that gives an opinion and finally decides the disciplinary one”.

For his part, Giorgos Vassiliadis, regarding the question of deletions, pointed out that “at the moment the process in the Ethics Committee has started”, to add that “when there is a proposal, then it will be discussed in the KE”.

Based on the words of the two, and especially of Petros Pappas, who was a man of Stefanos Kasselakis, it is estimated that an attempt is being made to avoid a conflict with “Umbrella” on the part of Stefanos Kasselakis.

On the other hand, however, there is a group of supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis who are pushing for the immediate removal of the four executives. For example, Nikos Karanikas, mocking Euclid Tsakalotos, underlined that “when I proudly hear the proud departure of the factionists of Umbrella 53+6/6 when and if they decide and their pride and their existential dilemma proudly allow them to leave the party which so proudly sustains them and so long they proudly undermine.”

The lyricist and well-known supporter of Stefanos Kasselakis, Nikos Moraitis, with his text titled “Stefan, you either win or lose us” calls on the president of SYRIZA-PS to definitively delete Panos Skourletis, Dimitris Vitsa, Nikos Fili and Stefanos Tzoumakas from the Central Committee , as, otherwise, the voters who supported him will go home.

“So, Stefan Kasselakis, if you can’t delete four abusers and they run you from one party organ to another, what can you change? Leave it, let’s change and go home, like 1,000,000 voters who left SYRIZA from 2015 until today”, characteristically noted Nikos Moraitis.

Staying in the Eurogroup of the Left

An element that -certainly- would constitute a turning point within SYRIZA-PS and major divisions, would be a possible transition of the party from the Eurogroup of the Left to that of the Socialists.

After all, Nikos Pappas, one of the close supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis, when he was a candidate for the presidency of SYRIZA-PS raised the issue of further cooperation with the European Socialist Party.

However, during the two-day presence of Stefanos Kasselakis, no such mood was expressed, according to the official announcements. SYRIZA-PS will remain in the Eurogroup of the Left and will seek wider cooperation with the Socialists and the Greens.

The fact shows that Stefanos Kasselakis is trying not to make – at least now – major changes in SYRIZA-PS, before the internal party conflicts.

Umbrella withdraws and presses the 6+6

After Eukleidis Tsakalotou’s speech at the “Epochi” event, which opened the door to leaving the official opposition party, a wave of people and executives close to “Umbrella” are preparing to leave SYRIZA-PS.

Possibly this will take place until the Central Committee of the weekend, especially if the referral for deletion or “political disapproval” of the four executives, Dimitris Vitsa, Panos Skourletis, Nikos Fili, Stefanos Tzoumakas, comes up for a vote there.

In this context, “Umbrella” is pressuring the executives who are aligned with the trend of 6+6 and who supported Efi Ahtsioglou in the recent internal party elections to leave in an orderly manner with them.

A typical example of this is an article published in Epoch, entitled “6+6: A trend of low expectations” and harshly criticizes the attitude of the executives who make it up, such as Alexis Haritsis, Efi Ahtsioglou and Nasos Iliopoulos .

But, given the current circumstances, the possibility of these executives leaving seems difficult. After all, it was announced by Sia Anagnostopoulou, who interpreted at the “Epochi” event, that she will remain in SYRIZA-PS as long as it includes the words “Radical Left” in its name, fighting the battle through its ranks, despite the severe criticism that exercised in the new leadership.

The departure of Stathakis brought yet another friction

The former minister Giorgos Stathakis said goodbye to SYRIZA-PS today, putting into practice what was evident from the text he signed some time ago with 116 more executives from Crete.

In essence, Giorgos Stathakis succeeded against the new leadership and in particular against Pavlos Polakis. The problems between the two former ministers were enormous, as evidenced by the fact that Pavlos Polakis considers Giorgos Stathakis responsible for the non-inclusion of Giorgos Hairetakis in the Chania ballot of SYRIZA-PS.

The coordinator of EPEKE Pavlos Polakis attacked Giorgos Stathakis by dedicating lyrics of the song “Kyra Giorgina” by Pythagoras, performed by Giorgos Kalatzis, accusing him of being a “liar”.
